build GTK-2.9.4 problem

hiii

I am trying to build GTK-2.9.4 from source and I am running following command for that--

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gtk-2.9.4

But I am getting some error like this:
Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.11.4 atk >= 1.9.0 pango >= 1.13.0 cairo >= 1.1.8) were not met.

So i build GLIB-2.16.1 for that in /usr/local/glib-2.16.1.
I also build PKG_CONFIG in /usr/local/pkgconfig/ although I had a pkg-config in /usr/local/bin/pkg-config/ already.

But I am still getting the same above error .

Can anybody help me in setting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable and any other ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE which I have to set????
