Build gnome using garnome for one computer on another
Hello,
I have a computer running (32-bit) FC5, on which I would like to update Gnome. I'm hesitant to upgrade to a newer version since in this case it would require a clean install, and thus require recompiling a significant amount of apps from source that I have installed over the past year or so.
So, I am wondering if it would be feasible to build Gnome using garnome, but on another computer, a much faster dual core running (32-bit) Ubuntu? (The dual core machine also runs Fedora 7 x86_64 but building it there would require a cross-compile.)
So following the garnome instructions can I create a dedicated user account in Ubuntu, build gnome, and then transferring this account (ie the /home/user directory and all its contents) to the FC5 machine? From what I gather, garnome downloads and builds the dependencies from source so maybe the package differences between Ubuntu and Fedora wouldn't be that important(?)
Thanks
