Bug / startx : xinit works but startx crash

If i run xinit X show up as expected there is no Window manager if set xfce-session on my ~/.xsession and run ". ~/.xession" it starts and every thing is fine.

But it i start from console $ startx X display is open, the cursor changes as specified in Debian /etc/alternative , but then screen Closes
... and there are notnoticable error & warning in /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Btw using startxfce4 it works

I suspect the question is related to Xautority but I can not figure out what is wrong with this.... please help

Try this....

Log into your account and delete all .* files. (Remember if you have any particular setting then BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DELETE). I had the same problem a couple of months back and since i did not have any major setting in X done so I deleted all the .* files. then i issued the command startx and it worked flawlessly

Cheers

I fixed it by myself ... might be a Knoppix / Debian conflict
see http://who.is.free.fr/wiki/index.php?Knoppix

It would help in the future if you include the output from your X server logs. I use to have magical powers when I could guess thoose things but they have since wildered away.

As i said before the problem is not related to XServer
and there are no noticable error message in the log file

thanx anyway i fixed the problem.
