BRU - glibc 2.2 versus libc5
 

Hi,

I am trying to find a good backup software program. I am currently using KDat on RH9 but it does not handle multiple tapes.

BRU looks quite good as far as features go but I have been asked whether I require the glibc 2.1/2.2 version or the libc5 version. As a newbie to Linux I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on which I would require given that I am running a standard Red Hat 9 KDE distro?

i'm really not sure what your asking, but i think DUMP will do everything your looking for...

install something like apt-rpm first:
# rpm -ivh http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...6-fr1.i386.rpm
# apt-get update

then to install dump:
# apt-get install dump

install webmin (a web-based administration package) to configure dump:
# apt-get install webmin

Thanks but I am not actually wanting a dump of the system. I was trying to use something that has a GUI interface and is friendly so that my Windows colleagues will be able to operate the backup server when I am not in the office (often the case).

The BRU backup software has a GUI (apparently) but to run the demo the provider has asked the following:

"The only other thing would be whether you required the x86 version (which I assume you would),

And then whether you require the glibc 2.1/2.2 version of BRU or the libc5 version… (depending on your implementation).. "

I want to know what the difference is between these two compilers (I assume?) and which I need to run the BRU software on RH9.

Does anyone have better backup software suggestions?

It should be glibc 2x
 

I don't know the exact version of the glibc Red Hat 9 is but it should be glibc 2x however, In the old days you could still install the compat libraries like libc

Ah, so the libc5 is the old style? OK. I will try to install the glibc 2.1/2.2 version on Monday.
