Browser(s) sound problem (related to Flash)

Hello, this is my first post here, nice place you have here.

I have a problem related to sound in my browsers (I use Mozilla, Opera, and Konqueror), the problem is probably related to Flash. I have downloaded and installed the Flash plugin correctly in my Linux Mandrake 9.1 system. The problem in question is that the sound is like one coming from a scratched CD that keeps on repeating the same part over and over. This happened after I disabled artsd using the killall command. I had to do this because arts caused problems to MPlayer which did not allow it to play sounds for my video files. And anyways I still experienced sound problems in my browsers before disabling artsd, but the difference was that sound went off altogether after a screeching sound, once I disabled arts sound came but it came as described above (like a scratched CD).

I would like to know if any of you know how to solve the problem. I am still a newbie to Linux, I installed it this week.

Thanks beforehand for any help offered.

Hey Edric,

Welcome to Linux... you won't be sorry

When I first installed the flash player the sound would work... but it was delayed by a few seconds... very strange... and of course this sucked for watching homestarrunner.

Then for un-related reasons, I un-installed Mozilla, then re-installed and re-added Flash Player. Now the sound is essentially fixed (it still feels a little sluggish after I've been running it for a while). So to answer your question(s), no, I haven't had the same problem you describe, but I have had sound troubles, and try uninstalling and reinstalling if possible.

Good luck!

How do I uninstall Mozilla or any other application? And the problem is on all browsers not just Mozilla.

Hey.

Assuming it was installed from RPM, you can use Mandrake's package manager.

To remove it:
Configuration --> Packaging --> Remove software. Provide root password, search for "mozilla" and remove the relevant packages.

To re-install:
Configuration --> Packaging --> Install software. Provide root password, search for "mozilla" and install the relevant packages. You might even consider upgrading if a newer version is available for you.

This can also all be accomplished from the "Mandrake Control Center". Spend a few minutes poking around and you'll learn a lot. You'll find it under "Configuration".

My primary browser is Moz. I use Konqueror from time to time, but never bothered setting up flash player in it, so sorry.

All the best

If I fix Mozilla it is not a problem, I prefer to do that anyways. I'll try uninstalling it and reinstalling it, then I'll see what happens.
