Bringing up ETH0 decrease time

hello all,

how do i decrease the time it takes to try to bring up the eth0 ? My setting is at like 1 minute which is way too long to detect an IP. Is there a bootup file where i can edit the timer on the bringing up eth0? Thanks a lot!!!

This question confuses me a bit.

Depending on your network configuration, when eth0 comes up it has to communicate with a server someplace to get an IP address, and to announce its presence. This can take time, and you really have no control over it.

sorry for the confusion..

i understand what you are sayin..but in the beginning when linux is loading..it should have a timer that says "after x amount of time, give up"

i have two linux machines and for some reason..one of my machines waits almost 5 times as long to figure out that it is not detecting the cable. anybody have any suggestions? thanks for the reply
