Bridged network on VMWARE, Debian hangs

I have a debian 3.1 unstable installed with kernel
Afer I compile the vmware with the script (VMWARE Workstation 5), if i choose the option bridged network, the host operating system debian hangs.
So I had to power off the computer manually.

Can somebody help me ??

I have already googled a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
