i am working with Centos 6.4 in a VMware build.

my original set up was
boot = /dev/sda1 = 500M
file system = volumegroup_one /dev/sda2 = 20G


i added more storage space in my VMware settings and tried to extend volumegroup_one using fdisk -cu /dev/sda and removing and adding back my partition that contained my file system. in doing so, the server boots straight to GRUB on a reboot.

this is not a crucial server, in fact, i built it just to break and try to fix by tinkering with the file systems but i'm stuck now.

any ideas how to correct?

whew, easy fix, but i'm not sure how i flubbed up the disk types.

had to download the 6.4 CentOS LiveCD.

uploaded the LiveCD.iso into the datastore's ISO directory and set enabled the option to connect at power on and set the vm instance to boot to bios to change the boot order (CDROM first)

booted into the LiveCD desktop, checked out my disk layout and my /dev/sda1 was set to Linux Logical Volume type ... soon as i changed that back to Linux (83 not 8e) ... and saved the changes. Next time it booted, it went right to my OS (after disconnecting the CD ROM and changing the boot order in the BIOS).
