Booting a cd from a floppy

I have an old computer, and it doesn't support booting from cd. And I need to use ftp to transfer some files on the fat16 partition on the hd to my ftp server. Could anyone by chance recommend a floppy/cd combination I could use?

What kind of hardware are we talking about here? Computer manufacturer, or motherboard, controllers?!

You can make a diskette with FreeDOS or this one from Dell, CDENAB and use a Linux distro that has the "autoboot" installer on the Linux install CD.

http://support.dell.com/filelib/form...leaseid=R19775
http://support.dell.com/support/topi...t?dn=TT1011054

But don't loose hope because you can create boot disks for many Linux distributions and boot from floppy to access the CD for the install.

And to address the FTP question, there are NetInstall versions of Linux too.

What kind of Linux are you in the market for?

Pentium 60mhz
24mb
500mb HD

I'm going to probably end up installing FreeBSD when I'm all done because it has such low resources, but I want to get some files off the 500mb hd first.

Do those disks have the ability to ftp?

You could probably run a DOS boot disk that has net.exe on it and a DOS ftp app.

This is the HOWTO for installing Linux over a network and includes RedHat, SuSE and Debian Linux > http://www.linux.com/howtos/Network-Install-HOWTO.shtml

I'd just be typing out alot of what they already put to 'paper' as it were if I were to explain myself.

Forget the DOS boot disk thing..
