Boot problems... dhcpcd?

As near as I can tell (which isn't very near at all, considering my experience with such things) dhcpcd is not working correctly and services that depend on it are not starting during boot. Of course, this is runlevel three and I can get net.eth0 and the other services working after the boot sequence... Which leaves me sorely vexed.

To make things a bit clearer, I am looking for help getting the boot sequence working in a proper manner. Here's (what I believe to be) the relevant parts of /var/log/messages

Code:
Aug 3 09:30:58 localhost dhcpcd[6942]: dhcpStart: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
Aug 3 09:30:58 localhost rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Aug 3 09:30:58 localhost rc-scripts: "boinc" was not started.
Aug 3 09:31:21 localhost rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Aug 3 09:31:21 localhost rc-scripts: "netmount" was not started.
Aug 3 09:31:21 localhost rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Aug 3 09:31:21 localhost rc-scripts: "ntpd" was not started.
Aug 3 09:31:21 localhost rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Aug 3 09:31:22 localhost rc-scripts: "proftpd" was not started.
Aug 3 09:31:22 localhost rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Aug 3 09:31:22 localhost rc-scripts: "sshd" was not started.
I am running Linux version 2.6.12-gentoo-r4.

I appreciate any help you can give me.
