/boot location and mand9.0


hi..
does /boot partition need to be in first 8gig or so?

reason being, my comp is coming with xp installed and i'm wondering if i have to consider it when i resize xp.

No.

My main drive is partitioned as follows:
/dev/hde7 5.2G 2.2G 3.0G 43% /
/dev/hde6 2.0G 1.9G 133M 94% /root
/dev/hde1 12G 8.9G 3.0G 75% /mnt/windows


/boot is on /
No problems. Lilo and grub will both be able to handle it.

With older computers, this was a concern. I don't know the technical details, but a BIOS made before a couple of years ago required a boot sector to be installed within a certain range (I think it was 8 GB, but memory fails).

However, if you're getting a new computer then you have nothing to worry about. I mention it for others with an older board who might read this thread.
