Question boot failed

Hi,

I'm trying to install a dual boot system, XP and RH8, on a ibm x30 laptop. XP was first installed. Then I tried to install RH8 and the whole installation went smoothly. I have taken advice to not install GRUB onto the MBR; and so at the end of the RH8 installation, I created a boot disk. However i cannot get RH started with the boot disk. All I got was a simple "boot failed" on the screen. I thought the floppy i used was bad so i tried the install process again. But that wasn't the case, i kept getting the same error: "Boot failed"

Please help!
