Thanks GatorBlade.

I'm using slackware
I've installed slackware on my usb hard disk. It can be boot directly from one of my notebook. However, my another older notebook cannot boot directly from usb. I would like to build a CD to help booting the usb hard disk.

I just copy the config file somewhere on the web. My plan is to start up the linuxrc in initrd and then change root to my usb drive. However linuxrc can never be started. The comupter reboot every time it try to load initrd.gz.

I've tried some other variation like specifying root=/dev/sda1, root=0x801 but with noluck.

Anyone can give me a clue?

Below is my latest isolinux.cfg file.

display boot/splash.cfg
default slack
prompt 1
timeout 400
F1 boot/splash.txt
F2 boot/splash.cfg

label slack
kernel boot/vmlinuz
append vga=769 max_loop=255 initrd=boot/initrd.gz root=0x801 rw
