What exactly are you trying to get them talking about? I Bluetooth with my phone no dramas and while I've seen rfcomm mentioned a couple of times and sites and stuff I've never used it anything related to it for BT stuff.

You want file transfers? Download + install openobex and obexftp. Then you can easily transfer files without a hitch, once openobex is installed it's simply something like this at the CLI
Code:
obexftp -b 00:00:00:00:00 -B 5 -p filename/jpg
Where -b is your device address and -B is the channel to use, I have an SE k700i and it's Obex channel is 5so you might have some luck with that. If you want something in a GUI-flavour, install openobex but then either kdebluetooth or gnome-bluetooth, depending on your environment of choice. You should probably find Slackware packages of all these somewhere on the net, good luck

I have the same phone and running debian.
It all works fine, but I didn't find nice software to manage contacts with more than 1 phone number, but...

I connect my bluetooth dongle and then:

hcitool cc xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

rfcomm bind 0 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

this will create a device /dev/rfcomm0, this is the device I talk to
