Blog Post: Preferred Network Backup Software
If you are thinking about network backup software, and have been looking at various options, the Minimalist Sysadmin has a blog posting with a detailed explanation of why Amanda is his preferred choice:
Indeed many here likely would be interested. Nonetheless it's considered bad form to post in the forums with just a link to the outside web. It diverts traffic away from LQ. I'm sure you meant no harm, but I think it's against the rules.
Just to clarify, it's not against the rules to do this. Unless you seem to be posting outside links simply to drive web traffic to your site. It's all done on a case by case basis.

I was a little concerned about this when I made the post. I did search through rules and such trying to find whether there was a clear statement. In the process, I also looked up all the postings by LXer, thinking that was a person (I had seen a link to an Amanda step by step example posted by LXer and thought there might be some moderator responses). Then I realized LXer was not a person, but rather an automated collection of news from the Linux News site LXer.com. I had come across it because I routinely look at "Zero Reply Threads" and try to answer a few.
Eventually, I decided that the content of my particular blog post was pertinent to issues and concerns discussed here, and that it was too long to just re-post here. In a sense, it's sort of like writing a review to "Backup & Recovery" by W. Curtis Preston. You'd put the review here with a link to O'Reilly. Of course, I'm not Preston, and I also don't have advertising on my blog, so I don't get monetary rewards (from book sales or advertising) from traffic to my blog.
