Blender menu corruption with Voodoo3 (3DFX) card

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I have tried to use Blender on my box with a few distros (FC 2, Gentoo, Ubuntu, currently Gentoo) and have had the same problem with parts of the menus getting moved farther down, making the software unusable (besides a few other quarks that I can't describe very well).

When I disable GLX/OpenGL in xorg.conf the software runs okay with the menus intact, however, it is quite slow.
I've posted a screenshot online.

Besides the Blender issue, the card works at a (fairly) decent frame rate in a few basic OpenGL games.

Code:
00:0b.0 VGA compatible controller: 3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 3 (rev 01)
I've searched on and off for a few months and have found no usable solution or suggestion.
