try this from a term window:

su
[enter root password]

cd /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions
vi blackbox
[hit the 'i' key to start inserting text and type text below]

#!/bin/bash
exec /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession blackbox

[now hit the 'esc' key in the upper left of your keyboard and type text below]

:wq

chmod a+x blackbox

vi +100 /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession
[hit the 'i' key to start inserting text and type below text]

blackbox)
exec -l $SHELL -c "$HOME/.xsession"
;;

[now hit the 'esc' key in upper right of keyboard and type text below]

:wq

[now exit from root]

exit

cd

vi .xsession
[now hit 'i' to insert text]

#!/bin/sh

xscreensaver &
gkrellm -w &
exec blackbox

[now save it]

:wq

log out of gnome. while in the login screen now see if blackbox is one of your choices.

if your using kdm, I don't know... what distro are you using??
Mandrake?? (check /etc/sysconfig/desktop)
i check there and theres no .xinitrc file, do i create the file ?

i check also /etc/sysconfig/desktop
it saids KDE

PS:macewan , tx for the input but blackbox is already one of my choices on logon
