blackbox and debian

alright i just installed debian 3.0r2 and got rid of kde and gnome cause they slow down my system way too much (i only have 16 megs of ram) i can boot into xdm and then (by default) load twm, which doesnt have enough things for my liking. I tried installing blackbox but each time i run the config it tells me im missing either x, the libs, or the headers. I know im not cause i can run twm and i also recently installed xfree86 4.4.0. Any suggestions?

the ./configure file for blackbox probably has options for specifying where the x headers/libraries are. try running ./configure --help and see if anything can help you.

alright i did that and found that u have to use "--x-includes= and --x-libraries=" so i did that and everything worked fine for the config part. I then went on to using make and i get this ouput:

it also seems that the last message i posted was cut off becuase the part i commented on on the bottom wasnt included. there were some error messages that kept saying "no such file or directory" when looking in /X11

if i were you i wouldn't bother compiling on debian unless you want to tweak something.
find a deb file of blackbox or one of its bastards.
you can ln -s /usr/X11R6 to /usr/X11 if such a directory doesn't exists.

the easy way apt.
*find a repository as you found one for XFree 4.4 unless you compiled it from source.

*apt-get install menu(if you don't have it installed to generate and update apps menu)

dpkg -i mydownloadedBlackBoxFamilyWindowManager.deb

apt-get -f install if necessary to correct missing dependencies.

alright i did that and installed blackbox (as far as i can tell) without a problem. Now how do i run it? when my laptop boots it immediately goes into xdm. whenever i try to go to terminal and just type blackbox it gives me "basedisplay:basedisplay: connection to X server failed"
??????

edit the file .xinitrc in your home directory to say /usr/X11R6/blackbox
