Black Screen in WinX (cant get WC3 to work)

I installed WineX3.1 correctly on my system and succesfully installed Warcraft 3. Unfortuantely, when i executed the shortcut on my desktop, it only resolved in a black screen on my desktop. The shortcut went to:

winex3 "C:/sw/WC3/War3.exe" -- -opengl

So i removed the opengl and tried again... This time it did work but lagged so much i could barely move my mouse. I think this may be a problem with my drivers, but what I have heard is that Nvidia cards are well supported in linux. I use a Geforce4 Ti4200. If i need to get drivers, where? and if there is a way to fix this, plz help!! Thanks you guys

You need to download Linux Drivers from nvidia ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._ia32_1.0-4496 ).

1. After downloading hit control+alt+f1 or f2
2. Login as root
3. Type telinit 1
4. change the directory where the drivers are at
5. Type sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run or whatever the files called
6. hit accept, and it should install
7. type telinit 5 and everything should restart up

Then you got to edit a file. Open up a console, su into root.. use gedit or whatever word processor you like... gedit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Go down to Section "Device" and under there you should see Driver "nv"... change that to "nvidia" and hit control+alt+backspace, should restart X and see the nvidia splash screen

edit: btw keep the -opengl, makes it faster (for me anyways)

Now I've got another problem *sigh* When I get into the Warcraft 3 setup, about 75% through, it stops and my terminal says the following:

$ winex3 /mnt/cdrom/install.exe
Building font metrics. This may take some time...
Done building font metrics
wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...

$ winex3 /mnt/cdrom/install.exe
wine: lstat /home/tearinox/.transgaming/wineserver-localhost/socket : No such file or directory

the second part is me trying to start the install again... but its not working now If someone could give me some help, much appreciation!!

Maybe WineX broke, try reinstalling it. Assuming its the rpm version and not the CVS. type "rpm -qa | grep wine".. you should get winex3... etc etc. Type rpm -e winex3... , then reinstall winex3

I didn't reinstall wine... but i found someone else with the same problem... here's his post for anyone else wit this problem:

Mike Blick Here's the solution: in your winex script located in /usr/bin add the following line at the begining.

rm -frv $HOME/.transgaming/wineserver-(whatever your localhost is called ie: hocalhost)

now there are 3 more problems... The game loads fast in the menu and works great... But there is no sound... I cannot connect to battle.net nor can I enter single player. It will freeze about 1/3 of the way through loading. I think these issues are a little off the subject so I'm going to repost this.

Thanks for all your help Steven!!
