This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Whenever I switch to non-VGA mode all I get is a black screen. I can hear sounds and everything else works, but I get no picture. My monitor stays on, and it looks like the display adapter is outputting only black. Hz are correct, I've checked from monitor OSD.
I've tried re-installing svgalib, I've tried uncommenting almost every different adapter type in libvga.config, I haven't tried different version for I havent found one. I've tried the 2.0.0 pre-versions tho, but they dont work at all. All I get is "svgalib: cannot open /dev/svga" when trying to run Quake (software rendering). No matter the resolution, as soon as svgalib steps in its all black.
X works fine. So do all VGA modes.
This so annoys me. I'm a newbie with linux and finally got everything else working with my Debian. I really hope I don't have to go back to use Windows cause of this.
