Black screen at start from own stupidity
Hey everyone. I'm going to ask a favour of all of you. Please don't make fun of me too much when I tell you this
I haven't been using linux for that long, although I should have known better. I went into the moniter configuration and decided to change the moniter driver to my moniter. Well I couldn't find one that was exactly the same so I picked one that was close... With that said, my display goes to sleep now when I start up into linux. I just need to know a way to change the moniter configuration without being able to get into linux. Thank you |
You don't even get any terminal prompts?

I can get into terminal, I get the terminal prompts. But I don't know them well enough to know what to do with them. I all the way to the part where you would usually log in, and then my screen goes to sleep

Log in using your root password.
rm /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 mv /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.old /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 This should restore your previous XF86Config-4 and you ought to be able to run X. Reboot and try it. |
Thanks, that worked.

You might want to install Midnight Commander and VIM. It makes it really easy to work the CLI. Enjoy.
