binutils HELP not even Nvidia will help me...


ok...

I am using redhat 7.3 just installed it and I am having problems

I own a Geforce4 TI4400

I am using the generic driver

I downloaded the current driver

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run-not even sure this is the right one for redhat linux 7.3 if it isnt let me know

Now I logged out of X window and I was in root the file is also in the root directory

and I type

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run

heh but guess what there was an error

ERROR

Unable to find the system ld
please make sure you have the package binutils installed.

If you do have binutils installed, the please check that ld is in your path

I get this from the Nvidia driver disply that comes up when you type

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run(am I missing somthing in the path containing ld?)

now

I tried to install binutils
got it extracted an everything the I cd,ed into then binutils directory and tried to run the install

and I get that CC isnt configured properly.........so it wont go either...........please help me im stuck in 640x480 and have had nothing but trouble with linux since I installed it

and dont just say download and install redhat linx 9.0 I dont think im ready for a step quite that big yet...

you might have to install gcc, mate ...
without that you can't compile anything

I fixed it I had to install a different file version of binutils

the .rpm file the.tar.gz filew asnt working mabey it was corrupt or somthing?

Which kernel version comes with RH 7.3?

I believe I read that the Nvidia drivers will only work with a 2.4 series kernel.
