Big Grub problem...maybe bad hard drive?..help!

Ok,

I'm a new to linux and I had fedora installed with window xp, dual boot. I turned my computer off for about 3 hour (mistake..heh) and now it goes into grub command prompt.

I searched the forums and found some stuff to try:

at the Grub>

I typed rootnoverify (hd<tab>,<tab>) and got:
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
partition 1 says it error 18 selected cylinder exceeds maxumum supported by bios. so i tried partition 0 and it seems to do something

then i typed chainloader + 1

then i typed :
boot

after that...it gets disk error occurred hit ctrl alt del to reboot.

HELP...i need to get into windows xp to finish some clients work...

Thanks for reading!

steve

Do a fresh install of grub.

If i remember correctly, boot off the fedora install cd. then enter "linux rescue" to get to rescue mode.

Then do "grub-install", and that should restore grub for you....
