BIG Compiz Headache!!!!

I have searched and searched every howto and message board for help on this and have tried everything. I just cannot get compiz (or beryl) to work.

I just did a fresh install of openSUSE 10.2 which included all the necessary Compiz files. The I went and got a fresh Nvidia driver upgrade from the Nvidia repo. So it should work right?? Wrong!

First with no changes to the xorg.conf file I just get the error about no extensions.

So then I edit the xorg.conf to add Composite "enable" to the Extensions section as well as adding:

Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"

to the "screen" section and

Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"

to the "Device" section

When I restart X and run compiz I don't get that error but the window borders all disappear and the system pretty much locks up on me until I restart X.

What am I doing wrong? I know that Compiz works with opensuse 10.2 with my video card because I've seen countless forum messages and other places where people have the same setup as mine and theirs works fine.
I dunno what to do if a fresh install of the OS and the vendor drivers doesnt do it

Help??!!??

I run Beryl so... a little different. However, pertinent questions are

(1.) do you have Xgl installed?
(1a.)in yast ->system -> etc/sysconfig editor ->desktop ->display manager ->display manager Xserver = XGL (default is Xorg which works with aiglx but i've not tried that route nor have i got the Beryl/Nvidia(aiglx) only route to work.

(2.) Kde or Gnome?

(3.) have you turned off all translucency options in your 'configure desktop' personal settings?

Without 1 & 3 i had the same problems. and no one mentions 1a., i stumbled across that one.
