Best way to migrate from Suse to Slackware?

Hi all,

I've got a working dual boot/dual hard drive install with Win 2K & Suse 9.1. I'm not happy with Suse - it's slow, and not as configurable as I'd like, so I'm going over to Slackware 9.1.

I bought the Slackware CD's so I've already got all the elements. My question is, what's the best way to make the transition?

Drive setup now looks like this in Windoze:
Windoze boot = C: = /dev/hda = 6.4 gig (the whole drive)
CD player = D: = /dev/hdc = u know how big
Linux drive = E: = /dev/hdb = Linux install = 22.5GB used by Linux, PLUS a free space of 9.32GB that Windoze sees as writeable.

Under Linux the drives are:
hda1 = /windows/C = mounted
???? = /sys = not mounted = maybe hdb2?
hdb1 = /Windows/D = mounted
hdb3 = / = mounted

Should I fdisk/format the Linux drive, and use Win 2K's Recovery Console to remove Grub? My goal is a clean install of Slackware with no leftovers from the Suse distro. Is there a more graceful way to do this?

TIA to all for your help!

When you are installing Slackware the install will give you the option to format your linux partition and install lilo to the mbr (overwriting suse's grub). I would recommend doing some research on setting up lilo for booting windows as I do not believe slackware automatically sets lilo for duel booting with windows (I could be wrong on this). So to keep yourself form banging your head against the wall later, such as lilo does not boot slack correctly and doesn't give you the option to boot back into windows. Be sure to create a windows boot floppy that will let you boot into dos and use fdisk /mbr command to let you boot into windows. You can then later use the slackware disk to mount and correct any problems with lilo. You may not have problems at all, I haven't, but I am not duel booting either and has been known to give people issues at times. Good Luck I hope all goes well, Slackware is a very solid distribution and has left me with very little room to complain. (there is always some room to complain i suppose) Sincerely, Dan

Lilo has no problems with Slack/Win dual boot, unless it has changed for the worse since Slackware 8
