Hey, I'm pretty new to linux, and I am trying out lots of different software. I know there's no "best media player," but I'm wondering what would be the best player to suit my needs.
Anyway, I've done some searching which has gotten me some good information on the strengths of the different players, but I'm not sure which one has the best strengths for what I usually do. I don't watch a lot of DVDs on my computer; rather, I usually download or stream short clips usually in wmv, mpeg, or avi format. I'm currently using Totem with Xine as a backend, but it hogs a lot of my CPU power (gstream was even worse).
I tried VLC and MPlayer, each which didn't use as much of my CPU, but I didn't like their interfaces. VLC was too simple and I didn't like the dual windows of MPlayer. I also like a lot of the features of Totem (screenshots, replay, etc.) and the general GUI layout. I was thinking about SMPlayer as an option, but I wanted to know of any others that fit my description. Thanks for any help.
Why not just look around a little bit, for Pete's sake. I'm sure it's too much trouble in your busy life to click the "Similar Posts" button when you create a new one.

If it's all about the interface, there are lots of players that can use mplayer as a backend. smplayer, kplayer, kmplayer are just some examples that come to my mind right now. I am sure that you can find many more around.

I actually did see that post but he was not looking for the same type of player. In fact, in that post, they talk about how each person needs a different player for their needs. Please look at the post you're trying to link me to and my post before getting angry.
