best media player
hello everyone.
i've been visiting this forum off and on for quite some time. i was just wondering what app you guys use for mp3s, wavs, and the like. i was wondering if there was something out there that does the same sort of indexing that windows media player 9 is capable of. i'm not anti-microsoft or anything, it has it's place, but i'll be damned if that wmp system wasn't the best way i've ever seen to organize music. enlighten me, fellas. what app is the best? |
Don't know about that kind of organisation but i've always found XMMS pretty good, you can create playlists etc... mplayer has a decent organiser if thats all you want...

XMMS, standard in most distros. http://www.xmms.org/about.php -- J.W.

well for music i'd advice you XMMS. as far as i remember under RH9 it requires a package that'd enable support for mp3 files since it's disabled by default. mplayer would be a good choice too, but i prefer it for playing video files. from those two however XMMS is the best for audio.

Yeah that's true - MP3's were under a bit of controversy when XMMS 1.2.7 was released so they didn't build support for it into that build- however, in the newer versions it's all built in :)
