It is if you compare mail service to mail service. But openexchange has groupware along with mail so it is providing multiple services.

There are many good email severs around.

I have used qmail , sendmail and postfix.

I am not great with any of them, but the 1 I have had real good luck with is qmail. I suggest checking out www.qmailrocks.org this site will do a step by step install for you from beginning to end including spamassisan, clamav, mysql-auth, imap ect.

If anybody has had any experience with installing Openexchange with Fedora Core 2 I would greatly appriciate any help. The java crap is killing me, not to mention its tested with postfix and I use qmail.

anyways good luck with your mail server!

And openexchange is not an Email server. Openexchange works with your email server. The only email server they have tested with is postfix. I believe it should be easy to get sendmail working with it rather easy. But have not been sucessfull with qmail yet .... YET!

Gordano mail server

Take a look at Gordano Ltd, they have an enterprise email server and a good Exchange replacement technology.

The server runs on most LINUXes.

Not sure if this would help you out, but have you tried eXtremail? I think you can get it at www.extremail.org. It's very easy to administer and works well for smaller businesses. I used it for a while until I moved us to Postfix (extremail didn't do spamassassin like I liked)

http://www.pipeline.com.au/staff/mbo...ail-server.htm

This one is a great guide as it walks you through the whole thing, and it is also kept very up to date. I used it my first time installing qmail and it shows how to run vpopmail out of a mysql database which I have found great for automating our company.
