Best Linux Software Tool To Use To Capture Wi-Fi Connections

Hello,

I am working on a project that requires me to capture the full Wi-Fi connection between a wireless controller and a wireless client using standard Wi-Fi hardware. The reason I am doing this is to study and reverse engineer the protocol being used.

As of now the main tools out there that I know of to do this is airodump or netsniff-ng for wireless capture and wireshark or tcpdump or analysis.

My question is these software tools should work, correct? I was also wondering if anyone had any suggestions or howtos they could point in my direction? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I know that airodump will let you record the traffic it sees, then wireshark can open it.

Hope this helps
