Well, backups works best most likely. Depends on if you want to get commercial with support or use free backup software. How important is your data to you?

Good Question. Helps to clarify my needs further. I am just a simple home user. Looking for the Best Free Data Recovery Software out there based on the experience of others. It helps to know what is available in advance (and even get familiar with it a bit), should the need ever arise.

What kind of a crash are you looking to recover from? Physical defects? Filesystem corruption? Deleted files?
