Best Audio Player for FLAC

Hi,

I need a player that can play 96 kHz, 24 bit FLAC files (Like Winamp does). XMMS seems unable to handle anything past 44.1 Khz. Alasplayer can play them if I decode them to .wav files first, and it can play CD standard FLAC files, but the FLAC plugin balks at higher bitrates. Any suggestions? Is it possible to use winamp under wine?

Sincerely,
Scott

i just converted a 96khz 32bit .wav to flac and it plays in xmms just fine so i'm not sure whats going on there where you are ?

anybody else have this problem

I tried to make some 32 bit (integer) wav files with Sweep. XMMS won't play them, but SOX will. Also when I trie to encode them with FLAC (version 1.1.0) it says ERROR: unsupported bits per sample 32

What are you using to make 32 bit FLAC files?

ahhhhhh you are right when i use flac --bps=32 mine says
invalid bits per sample '32' (must be 8/16/24)

my bad -- i just used whatever is flac default bitrate evidently the first time on a 32bit .wav file
i was confused and assumed lossless meant it used the same bitrate like it does samplerate
as another test
i just made a 96khz 24bit .wav file and converted it to flac using
flac --bps=24
and that flac file plays fine in xmms

i'm using
flac-1.1.1
that would be the same package that makes libxmms-flac as well
xmms 1.2.10
i did ldd on the flac libs and libxmms-flac to see if they were linked against something like libsamplerate and they are not -- it's all just straight ahead stuff

wish i had more insight or someone else would join us on this one

I installed xmms_sndfile and now the 24 and 32 bit wave files are playable in xmms. Still no luck on 24 bit FLAC files. Are you using xmms_sndfile?

no don't have that one

i do have libsoundfile installed and stuff like ardour is linked against it but nothing involving xmms or flac or alsa seems to be linked against it

i was curious about the link between ogg and flac but the only thing that seems to incorporate flac and libao is ogg tools obviously for reading in and i don't even seem to have installed oggtools yet (oops)
i will go compile that now
