I tried to get onto the Beryl forum but it wont let me register, so ill post here and hope for the best
I installed Ubuntu 7.04 last night, and i love it. I replaced Windows completely, and i am having a great time.
I then tried Beryl, and no matter what i try, i cant make the effects work. Does anyone have any ideas? I tried enabling desktop effects, which are the wobbly windows and cube, but teh cube stopped working after not that long, and the wobbly windows arent Beryl i dont think, im pretty sure its just Ubuntu.
Can anyone help me get it working, so i can use Beryl properlly? I also tried the wiki for beryl ,but it is closed. Im relatively new to Linux , so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Wobbly windows is definitely a Beryl effect, GNOME does not have that capability built in. Since you had both the cube and wobbly windows running, Beryl is installed properly and working.
The only possible issues that would be effecting performance beyond that would likely be your video card drivers (make sure your card is up to snuff, and you are using the correct drivers) or the general instability of Beryl. After all, this is not finished software we are talking about here. I have been using Beryl on my machine for about 4 months now, and while it isn't too bad, it definitely crashes every once and awhile or otherwise misbehaves.
The best thing to do would be to check the console messages for Beryl. Make sure Beryl is not running, and then run "beryl-manager" from the console. You should see a lot of information going by while Beryl starts and the window effects kick in. Note any errors during startup, and once you have things start to fail, go back and check it again to see what it is saying while things aren't working properly.
hi
Even without beryl active, the wobbly windows still work, and nothing poses any errors, but nothing actually happens when i run any of it. Eg - even with Wobbly Windows deselected in Beryl, it still does it, provided its enabled in desktop effects, in preferences. Whatever i change, none of the other effects happen, just the wobbly windows, i cant even get the cube any more.
I just turned wobbly windows OFF in beryl, and then rebooted it, but they still wobble. Yet, when i change it in preferences>>Desktop animations , it turns off instantly
