Arrow Beryl - Fedora Core 7 - e-GeForce 7200 GS

Hi all!

So I have just upgrade my server and want to setup Beryl. Originally I was running Fedora Core 6 with Beryl and had no issues. I now have my system running FC7 with Beryl installed and I am using an e-GeForce 7200 GS for the video card. I was hoping that it would be a simple re-install of the OS and that I could just boot beryl.... BUT NOPE NOT THAT EASY, not a big surprise.

Anyway when I try to load the Beryl boot manager I get a white screen. I then have to kill "X-Windows" and reboot. Not to sure where to go from here. I am guessing that I have to get better drivers for the e-GeForce card... but I read somewhere on a Linux Forum not to use third party drivers but to use the ones from Red Hat/Fedora Core....

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?

Thank you!
Brendan

I am running Beryl + Emerald with a nVidia gforce Go 6600 and had to try out a few driver versions of nVidia before picking up one that worked well together with Beryl. I assume you'll have to do the same... .

Ok thanks Pearlseattle. Did you use nVidia drivers or did you use drivers by Red Hat/Fedora? This was the site that I had read something about saying to use these drivers rpm.livna.org. Going to check that out today.

Thanks for the reply! How do you like Beryl on a dedicated video card? Smoother? Faster? Prettier?

Thumbs up beryl and nvidia drivers

Ok so I managed to get Beryl and my nVidia card working with the latest and great version of Beryl....

Here is how!

1) First I added the Linva.org yum to my system

open a terminal and as root run this command:
# rpm -ihv http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm

2) then in the same terminal run this command:
# yum install kmod-nvidia

3) restart your system

4) try out Beryl....

I didn't have any issues it was that easy. Once I found the right drivers from livna it was no problem.

Hope this helps someone else!
