Berkeley DB problem

Does anyone has a solution for this error????
am going crazy!!!!!

[serv@dnserver dist]$ ./configure
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking if building in the top-level or dist directories... yes
configure: error: Berkeley DB should not be built in the top-level or dist directories.

hi,
you don't say if you are installing as system version or as extra version
or for that matter which version you are installing

generally speaking db as you have noticed comes with some build directories

cd ./build_unix
../dist/configure

you should also go to http://dev.sleepycat.com/downloads/r...istorybdb.html
and get the patches if any for the version you are using

and use at least
../dist/configure --enable-compat185 --enable-cxx
(--enable-java and --enable-tcl ?)
when i did 4.52 i had to use
make LIBSO_LIBS="-lpthread" LIBXSO_LIBS="-lpthread"
to get native threads to link right
also at the end the installed files will have the permissions of the user who compiled them so either compile as root or
(for system you should use --prefix=/usr in the config otherwise change below to /usr/local or wherever)
chown root:root /usr/bin/db_* /usr/lib/libdb* /usr/include/db*
