Belkin KVMS switch and KDE

Hey friends,

I am brand new to this forum. I love linux and I hope I have a fairly easy question. :D

I have the new version on Redhat 8. I am running KDE and i love it. The desktop looks a trillion times better. One problem.

I have 4 computers. two linux and two windows 2000.
i have a belkin 4 port kvms and i have a really good logitech mouse and keyboard. when i go to and from the two windows and terminal mode linux box everything is cool. but if i switch to the KDE machine and then try and use the mouse. It Goes Crazy!!
sometimes i am lucky and can get to a terminal screen and type /etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm restart and i am all good.

bascially i am hoping one of you guys have experiance with this and or know how to make a button on the keyboard do the gpm restart after i switch to the KDE computer?

hrm, I don't run KDE but I'm using a Belkin 4 port KVM on a number of systems, from HP-UX to OpenBSD with Linux mixed in there somewhere.

I'd suggest you disable gpm before you start XFree86, you can put a line like:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm stop

in your xinitrc file, see if the problem persists..

on a side note, my HP-UX box won't bootup with the KVM correctly, its looking for a signal the KVM isn't giving it for the keyboard, I have to switch to it . So in otherwords, the Belkin line is good, but it isn't perfect.

I Just tried and it still messed up when i pushed the belkin switch button to go back to that box.

and i checked and the service was stopped. so then i went ahead and started the service and the box was great. maybe i could set up that hot key to restart the service? i can't figure out how to do that

maybe i should switch to Gnome? do you think that it is a better GUI?? will they both have the same crappy problem.

I have experienced the same problems with all the x-servers' I have tried. I don't think switching is the answer...but I have no idea wha the answer is.
