Belkin bulldog

I just installed belkin bulldog on my server and did a test run by unplugging the UPS. After about 2-3 seconds the server just powers off. Is this what is suppost to happen? Since I figured I'd get some kind of alert or something. The shutdown seems to be clean though, since normally doing a bad shut down in linux corrupts the whole file system, and after 2-4 tries nothing bad a happened

But when I type poweroff command it does not actually poweroff, but simply says "poweroff" though it seems to shut off the hard disks, which really is the important part. (something I need to look into for making remote shutdowns easier)

Wow I just realized this shutdown is actually caused by the UPS powering itself off completely. This is a rather heavy UPS, 600VA I believe so it should support 5 amps and the server is about 2 amps and probably less then 1 amp for the network equipment. (this is all home based stuff, not enterprise heavy duty managed switches or anything... I wish lol). So I'm rather baffled that this UPS (fairly new) can't handle this load. And it's not that the battery dies right away, it just shuts off, after a few seconds. Could it be defective maybe?
