Beeping the internal pc speaker.

linux kernel 2.6, Sklackware 12.0

Hi:
I have the suspicion that the internal pc speaker does not work. Is there a linux application to beep the speaker? Or perhaps somebody could send me a small script to make it beep. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Make sure pcspkr is loaded into the kernel
Code:
lsmod|grep pcspkr
If not, you have to load it:
Code:
modprobe pcspkr
Then run from CLI
Code:
echo -e "\07"
Regards

Thank you bathory. The module is loaded but echo -e "\07" does not produce an audible sound. I'd like to test with several frequencies, because these speaker have a very uneven frequency response curve. I think I'll boot DOS and make a short program and test. Regards.

You should run it from CLI (e.g. from runlevel 3) and not from an xterm. X use xset to manage bell
You can then use
Code:
setterm -bfreq XXX
setterm -blength XXX
to change frequency and duration
