Bass and Treble on Mixer not working

Finally got my cd player in Mandrake 9.1 to play some music. Had to point it to /dev/scd0 and low and behold...music. I've been searching on how to get my bass and treble to operate. They move up and down as an adjusment, but no differance in sound.
any help would be appreciated.

first I look at it in "Volume Control". Both bass and treble are unchecked for mute. I also check it in "Aumix" and everything is unchecked for mute and if I have them both open I can see one move while I check the other. Both bass and treble still move but no effect yet.
I'm still looking for Alsamixer but can't seem to find it.

alsamixer wont be there if your using a different sound driver. in "Volume Control" is there a "tone" level selector next to bass and treble if so then uncheck that, this is about as much as i can help you sorry.

I don't see a "tone" level selector on mine...Mine shows volume,
bass, treble, pcm, speaker, line, mic, igain, line1, phin, and video.

I also checked the preferances and all of them are checked in there to be shown. "tone" is not listed at all.
thanks anyway.
