bash: make: command not found
I have automake-1.8.3-23 and autoconf-2.59-75 installed. I can configure just fine but when I go to make, make install, make check, etc.... I get: "bash: make: command not found" I am using SuSe 9.1 Personal free iso download. Am I missing something????
your missing the package "make" automake and autoconf are utils for generating a Makefile from a smaller config file (i think uses m4) autoconf turns the output of automake into a configure scripts (the ones that runs when you do ./configure) to generate the final Makefile that will work with your system

I plan on buying SuSE pro in about a week and a half. Right now I want to get familiar with it so I know how things work instead of waiting for a problem to pop up and get lost. I have heard many good things about SuSE pro. Can't wait to get it.

For SuSE 9.1 this is what I installed. Go to: ftp://ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu/pub/su...9.1/suse/i586/ and download: automake-1.8.3-23.i586.rpm , autoconf-2.59-75.i586.rpm , m4-1.4o-622.i586.rpm , make-3.80-184.i586.rpm
Use konsole or equivelant. As root install them with rpm -ivh
You may have one or two already installed. But check. If you still need some more rpms istalled or it is telling you you need a specific file but you can't find it at the SuSE ftp site, let me know because all the files you need are at the ftp site just a bit hidden sometimes. I found a little trick that helps with this, but it can be a little time consuming.
