Bash history is cleared without any reason?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi!

Recently my bash_history has been cleared several times without any warning or reason.

I have during the past month experienced this strange behavior twice and it occurs ONLY on my root account. The computer in question is running Ubuntu 9.04 and I am the only user.

Have never experienced this before

Could somebody help me out or suggest what might be the culprit?

Thanks in advance

Check if there is a .bash_logout file in /root, which maybe contains
Code:
history -c

Thank you very much for your suggestion, colucix.

Unfortunately, no, I don't have that file in /root. I should also probably mention that this box is turned on and off quite regularly (I usually power it off during the night), which means that I am logging in and out rather frequently without my history being erased.
