Unhappy Bash gone?? WTF!!

Well, i tried to run a program (Galeon) but it cam with an error, bash was not found :S well, now i can't open anything anymore.... but, how do i get Bash back, with the rescue disk or something? It would be nice, if nothing has to be deleted

Btw, i still have 2 Eterm windows open, zo I can work with them i guess......

Does anybody here know a solution?

If you have two eterm windows open, then they must be running some shell. Try 'ps -ax' to see if bash is running. Then try 'which bash' to see if you still have /usr/bin/bash. Then cd to /usr/bin/ and 'ls -l bash' to see if it's a link (in Slackware, it's a link to /bin/bash), and if so, cd to that directory then 'ls-l bash' again.

You might also try 'echo $PATH' to see if your path was changed. I find it hard to believe that bash is really gone, maybe it's just lost.

You could also try ctrl+alt+F2 to get to a virtual console and try logging in with your regular username. If you're successful with this, then bash is still there. Try the above steps again from this console. To get back to X, hit alt+F7 (or ctrl+alt+F7).

Sorry I can't give you a fix for this, but hopefully some of this may help you to pinpoint the problem (a broken link or bad path or...).

Enjoy!
