Bandwidth measurement

I'm looking for some way to measure the bandwidth consumed by a particular piece of software.

To complicate things, the software is running on a Windows machine, connecting to servers outside our LAN, on the Internet in a situation similar to, say, a gnutella client.

Is there something for Linux that will allow me to reliably gauge the bandwidth of this connection, from a third host?

Can ntop do this?

Hi
I know softwares called awstats, webalizer which measure the bandwidth for websites. These things measure the no of hits that happent to a website.

My point here is these two are opensources, where you can get their code and edit according to ur requirement

Yeah... We're not really looking for usage statistics, but more for the actual bandwidth video and audio streams are using, so we can write up minimum requirements for an Internet connection to use our software on.
