baflling glibc error

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile glibc. I got through the compile but something strange happens. When I do make install in the build directory I get, at some point, this error:

mv: relocation error: libc.so.6: symbol __libc_stack_end, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference

I thought I compiled something wrong. In fact, after this, my system could not boot so I resotred my system from backup.
Now, here's the part that baffles me. After restoring the system, I went into the build directory and tried to list its contents and I get this:

ls: relocation error: libc.so.6: symbol __libc_stack_end, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference

No other directory does this to me. Can someone explain to me what might be going on?

I have no idea, but I did find this page: http://www.linux-sxs.org/upgrading/glibc.html which may be of some use.

thanks. but it didn't help me with my particular problem.

what I don't understand is what is going on with my build directory. I get that error *before* I install the new glibc so something must be funny about the build directory.
