Baffled by Gaim

This is a problem with MSN protocol under Gaim 2 Beta, with SSL support compiled. Unable to connect using various proxy configurations. Just to note, if I go next door and use a Windows machine, not a problem. Tough eh!

Much love to anybody who can provide some advice...

We begin...

Using "Global Proxy settings"

Error:

Quote:

Access denied: proxy server forbids port 1863 tunnelling.
---------

Using "Environmental settings"

Error:

Quote:

Unable to authenticate: Unable to connect
(When going back to this, it shows as "no proxy" ???)

---------

Using "HTTP proxy"

Error:

Quote:

Access denied: proxy server forbids port 1863 tunnelling.
---------

Using "Global" and "HTTP" method

Quote:

Sit's there for a long time, tell me it's 'connecting' then drops out with

ERROR: Connection error from Notification server: Writing error

Same occurs when specifying HTTP proxy
---

Using "Environmental" and "HTTP" method

Quote:

ERROR: Connection error from Notification server: Unable to connect

---

Does anybody have any clues?

are you able to connect without using the SSL protocol?

fails 05-25-2006 04:49 AM

no, you have to compile GAIM with SSL for MSN for work :)

Oh, sorry didn't know that about MSN, I don't use it :p... I'll see what I can find tonight.

Just to clarify, is that the same version of Gaim under Windows but not Linux?

When I say it works under Windows I mean the following

1) Gaim doesn't work under windows
2) MSN Messenger for Windows does work

I've found the problem. Gaim is unable to use the proxy for 443, therefore my solution to to run a proxy locally, and which points at the network proxy. I point Gaim locally.

Saying "it works under Windows" means "it doeasn't work under Windows"? That doesn't make sense!

Is their any other fix than running a local proxy? I have the same problem with gaim2beta3 on windows.

If a local proxy is the only go, how do i go about setting a small proxy up on my machine.
