bad GCC

Got the following erro when I tried installing Mplayer.
I understand that I do not have GCC installed on my pc.
Is there a way I can check whether I have gcc installed and if yes then which version ?
How to upgrade the gcc version?
Using Linux Redhat 9 kernel 2.4.20-8

Detected operating system: Linux
Detected host architecture: i386

It doesn't look like you have gcc installed at all. If you have Redhat installation CDs, you should be able to install it from there. If there is a generic set of "development" packages you can install, do that, since it will give you most everything you need for compiling stuff.
