Backup server suggestions?

I am in the process of setting up a Linux (Mandrake 10) backup server (non-dedicated) to run on a small home LAN (all other computers are Win2k or XP). I have a hard drive in the machine (40Gb) just for that purpose. Because the hard drive is smallish, I want to be able to keep only the most recent one or two versions of a file; also, to reduce backup times, I want to make sure that only files that have been modified since the last backup are backed up.

I tried the packaged Mandrake backup utility, but that refused to work with path names with spaces in them (as, of course, all of the Windows machines have, mounted using Samba). I downloaded something called Bacula, but I am fairly new to Linux, and I could not find a way to get that to work. I tried reoback, but that would hard-lock my system every time that I used it.

So, does anybody have any suggestions of a simple, light, relatively easy to configure backup tool (either console or GUI) that will do all of the above? Thank you in advance for any help :-)

rsync is good if you only want incremental backups. I've got a couple of LinuxAnswers on LQ about automating the proccess with SSH.
