Backup Remore Server

G'Day,

I currently administer a server remotely, and I would like to perform a one-time backup to my powerbook. Its just a small personal server running Debian Woody with a 5 gig SCSI HD. All the info I've found on this site, and using google, seems to require using boot disks and live cds, both of which I can't use due to my remoteness. Ideally I would like to create a disk image, as it seems it would be safer than just backing up the files using tar.

Any help would be appreciated.
