Backup Program Recommendation
 

I am looking for a backup program which ideally will allow me to choose directories and possibly even individual files from a File Manager type screen by clicking in checkboxes.

Under Windows I use Backup Made Simple which does this excellently.

Under Mandrake The most convenient I found was the Backup Applet in "configure your computer" which wasn't terribly impressive but did the job.

I am now running Debian and have yet to decide on a backup program. The Backup destination will be a CDRW.

Can anybody recommend a program?

If you are just talking about burning files or directories to a CDRW, then you could use something like K3B. If you are looking for an actual backup solution, though it doesn't meet your requirements, I've had good luck with partimage (partimage.org).

I've never used that Windows program mentioned, but K3B does do what you have described. If there is something I'm missing, feel free to respond with a bit more detail on exactly what you are hoping this application to do.

You might have a look at kdar which is the GUI to dar.

Partimage looks useful as a Ghost replacement. K3b, which I use for burning CDs does not dave the file list or handle icremental backups etc.

What I am after is a program with an interface like Kdat, but which writes to CDRW.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to go with Kdar although it is not what I wanted.

For people who read this thread in the future, there are apparently some problems with compiling Kdar for Debian but a tracked down a deb package here:
