Background won't change in any window manager

I just upgraded from Mandrake 9.1 to Mandrake 10.1, and everything is going great. However, despite my best efforts, I have been unable to change the background of any of the window managers. For such a smooth update, it seems an odd quirk. I have tried changing the background in KDE, Gnome, IceWM, and Blackbox, with no result. I've also tried .gif, .jpg, and .xpm files, with nothing either. Anyone know what's causing this? Thanks.

Well... it's been fixed. I just installed each of the window managers over again. However, it was kind of odd that I had to do that.
