have you all got problems with azureus 2.5.0.0 (debian etch) or is it only me?
Everytime I run it it downloads Core Azureus Version and installs it, then it says that a restart is needed however, when I press the restart button, I got some error that I don't have azupdater plugin installed.
When I go to 'plugins' menu I can see azupdater.
It the same routine happens every single time I run it.
Well, you're not the only one. I was going to do some googling for an answer but I haven't gotten round to it so far. I'm wondering whether this could be permissions related. Maybe running it as root would solve the issue??
It's definately a permissions issue. You've installed it using whatever apt tool you have installed (apt-get, aptitude, aynaptic) so it's installed to a directory that only a root user has access to. When you run the program, you're running it as a restricted user. To update it you'll need to run the program as the root user, though I'm not sure what problems updating the program outside of Debian's tools will cause.
You don't have to log in as root at your normal login, you can just use your GUI's terminal program to run the program as the root user.
Open a terminal in your graphical interface.
Type "su".
Enter the root password.
Type azureus or /usr/bin/azureus.
Update.
Close Azureus.
Close terminal.
Logging in as root only causes problems if you don't know what you're doing.
Logging in as root only causes problems if you don't know what you're doing.
Executing anything that you can't personally vouch for is a risk, if you're running it under root's priveledges.
(In theory) If Azureus had been tampered with to download a fake update from a different location, and then execute it, wiping your system. It's a big problem :P
Thanks, however the procedure was exactly the same
1. I ran Azureus from the terminal as root
2. automatically the update message appeared
3. so it downloaded and installed core azureus packet.
4. then when it finished it said it needed a restart.
5. When I pressed the restart button, it said that I cannot restart because I don't have the 'azupdater' plugin
6. So I went to installation wizard and installed some plugins - so then I had it on the list, but
still could restart. When I exit program, and run it again it says that some plugins haven't been installed correctly, so the same story: install core azureus, etc.
Have you considered downloading directly from the Azureus site? I'm running 2.5.0.4 and it works fine, updater and all.
However this is in Mepis, not sure if Etch would be more difficult with java setup. The package in the (ubuntu in my case) repositories didn't look like a good option.
